Maria Burgos, Special advisor to the President 

Maria Burgos is a Toronto lawyer.  She has been employed with the Federal Department of Justice, the Alberta Public Service, and in private immigration law practice.  During her career she has appeared before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court, in Ontario Family Court, and at the Ontario Court of Appeal, as well as all 3 divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board. Currently, she is the Special Advisor to the President of the Association of Justice Counsel, the union representing 3100 federal lawyers.  Her mandate focuses on advocating for improvements in equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
