The Association of Justice Counsel has been advised that the Department of Justice is notifying members that their positions are affected by workforce adjustment.

The union’s priority is supporting members affected by these cuts. Affected members will be invited to attend information sessions with the AJC’s Representation Services team on January 30 and February 2. These sessions were deliberately scheduled to give impacted members time to process this news before turning to next steps.

The AJC’S dedicated team of elected officials and labour relations officers are also providing one-on-one navigation and individualized support tailored to each member’s situation.

The AJC has been clear from the outset: these cuts are not just administrative adjustments.  They remove experienced legal professionals from the justice system. They weaken Canada’s ability to govern effectively and defend itself legally. They undermine the institutions Canadians rely on for fairness, accountability, and public safety.

At a time of global instability, Canada needs a strong legal team to protect national interests, mitigate risks, and ensure government decisions remain legally sound under pressure.

No matter what lies ahead, the Association of Justice Counsel will:

  • Support affected members through every step of WFA

  • Hold departments accountable

  • Challenge decisions that weaken the justice system

  • Oppose cuts that affect legal capacity

Members can find valuable information on workforce adjustment in the AJC’S FAQ on Workforce Adjustment. Members affected by WFA can also connect with the union’s representation team via the AJC’s Intake Form. A labour relations officer will get back to members affected by Workforce Adjustment within 48 hours.
