Updated Information Regarding the Pause of the Department of Justice Canada LP-01 Training and Development Program
- The AJC received notice that the Department of Justice was pausing the LP-01 Training and Development Program on July 31, 2025 without any prior notice or consultation.
- Notice of the pause was given to LP-01 members during the week of August 4, 2025.
- The AJC has met with senior management at the Department of Justice. At this time there is no plan to “unpause” the LP-01 Training and Development Program in the near future.
- Participants in a professional training program, such as the LP-01 Training and Development Program, are considered probationary employees for the duration of their enrollment in the program (see Regulations Establishing Periods of Probation and Periods of Notice of Termination of Employment During Probation)
- As the LP-01 Training and Development Program is paused, LP-01 members are not considered probationary employees unless they have not served the requisite amount of time set out in their letter of offer.

- The AJC filed two judicial review applications of the decision to pause the LP-01 Training and Development Program on August 29, 2025. These two applications have been joined by the Court.
- A date has not yet been set for a hearing.

- Audit of the LP-01 Training and Development Program
- LP-01s are encouraged to keep their Workplan up to date. The current template for the Workplan can be found on the Department of Justice intranet site.
- Members are encouraged to timekeep to the LEX file for any time spent on their LP-01 Workplan, unless their manager advises them to timekeep to a different file.
- The AJC filed a policy grievance related to the pause of the LP-01 Training and Development Program on September 4, 2025.
- A date has not yet been set for a hearing.
- The AJC is not able to file grievances on behalf of excluded members. The AJC is able to file a grievance if the member is in a position proposed for exclusion.

Workplace actions available to affected LP-01 members who believe they are doing LP-02 work include:

Requesting acting pay for LP-02 responsibilities; and/or

Requesting an accurate statement of duties which would include the LP-02 responsibilities; and/or
-
Filing a classification grievance, alleging that the responsibilities of the position are that of an LP-02.

To obtain language and guidance these options, please file an Intake Form with the AJC.
- After discussions with the employer, the deadline to file individual grievances related to the LP-01 Training and Development Program is October 3, 2025.
- If a member wants to file a grievance after that date, the AJC will assist in filing it. However, the employer may raise issues related to timeliness.
