Ottawa, March 27, 2026 – The Association of Justice Counsel (AJC), representing more than 3,500 federal lawyers and prosecutors, reports that, in the context of ongoing workforce adjustment measures, the legislation enabling the Early Retirement Incentive (ERI) has now received Royal Assent.

Members who received a preliminary ERI notification through the Pension Portal in December 2025, or who wish to express interest, can now access additional details regarding final eligibility and the next steps in the process.

What this means for members

The Early Retirement Incentive program is in effect for a period of 300 days, from March 26, 2026, to January 20, 2027. The application window is open for 120 days, from March 26, 2026, to July 24, 2026. Members whose applications are approved will be required to retire no later than January 20, 2027.

Members are encouraged to review this information carefully to better understand how the ERI may apply to their individual situation.

Eligible members with access to the GC Pension Portal will receive an email notifying them that a letter is available in the Portal, while those without access will receive the letter by mail. Members who believe they are eligible but have not received an email or letter are encouraged to contact the Pension Centre.

The AJC continues to follow the implementation of ERI closely and remains committed to ensuring members have access to accurate and timely information throughout this process. We will take appropriate action as needed in the best interests of our members.
