The Association of Justice Counsel (AJC) stands in solidarity with members of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) and the Professional Employees Association (PEA), who have begun job action following the expiry of their collective agreements and the breakdown of negotiations with the Government of British Columbia.

These public service professionals deliver essential services every day: fighting wildfires, supporting families and vulnerable communities, safeguarding public safety, protecting the environment, and providing specialized expertise across countless areas.

BCGEU and PEA members are seeking fair wages, better access to telework, modernized job classifications, and a reduction in the use of costly external contractors. These are reasonable and necessary demands and their decision to take job action reflects the seriousness of their efforts to secure a fair and equitable contract that recognizes their value and the essential role they play in delivering high-quality public services.

As federal public service lawyers, we know that fair compensation and equitable treatment are fundamental to protecting the independence, quality, and sustainability of public services across the country. When one group of public sector professionals is undervalued, it impacts us all.

How AJC Members Can Show Support

We encourage AJC members to demonstrate solidarity with BCGEU and PEA colleagues in the following ways: send a message of support directly to BC MLAs through BCGEU’s online form (link here), amplify the message on social media by sharing AJC’s post or those from BCGEU and PEA, and, for members located in BC, when possible, support workers at local picket lines. These actions show that federal public service lawyers stand shoulder to shoulder with other public sector professionals in the fight for fairness and respect.
