JUS Workforce Adjustment

Friday, June 6, 2025

Dear Members,

On June 4 and 5, 2025, the Department of Justice Canada (JUS) notified 27 indeterminate employees impacted by the Workforce Adjustment (WFA) exercise of their Affected Status. These employees have received written Notification of Affected Status, advising them that their services may no longer be required.

This notification makes JUS the first department to action WFA measures for AJC members.

While AJC is smaller in membership than some of our sibling federal public service unions, our role as lawyers within the Government of Canada is critical. We defend the public purse, prosecute wrongdoing, draft legislation, advise on settlements, trade agreements, and treaties, and help uphold the rule of law. Our work is essential to Canadians.

Given our expertise and the significance of our contributions, the LP group remains vital to the functioning of the federal public service. We are hopeful this will help reduce the scope and impact of the current WFA initiative on our LP group.

AJC has a strong track record of supporting employees through WFA exercises, helping to minimize the impact on affected individuals. Historically, the majority of employees represented by the AJC have remained employed by the end of the WFA process.

To help members understand WFA measures and what they may mean for you, we encourage you to consult our FAQ for answers to frequently asked questions, including details about voluntary departure programs for non-affected employees.
